Biography

Mike has been director of materials, managed purchasing teams and provided consulting services for companies in such diverse markets as high technology electronics, finance, medical instruments, food, automotive diagnostics, semiconductor and industrial equipment.  He has consistently achieved company goals.

Early in his career, he learned a great deal about the challenges small companies face by helping them reduce costs and improve product quality.  He was fortunate to work with Dr. William Ladd at Ladd Medical and Research.  Dr. Ladd was one of the inventors of the electron microscope and worked on the Manhattan project.  By contrast, at a multinational multi-billion dollar conglomerate, he learned the benefits of buying consortiums to leverage spend across the company.  He traveled to Singapore and other international locations to manage an efficient supply chain and was twice recognized as a key contributor for his leadership and vision.

He became the Director of Materials for a High Tech company beginning to implement lean manufacturing.  After attending an in-depth  M. I. T. curriculum on lean design he streamlined materials and manufacturing practices by participating in multiple lean initiatives.

He also learned the real value of statistical process control, not just in improving quality but in managing people and processes from Dr. Kazinsky, a student of the late Dr. Deming.

Recently, he helped develop and design an e-procurement system for SupplyWorks.  He provided consulting and training services to assist in implementing the system with a number of customers including such fortune 500 companies as Borg Warner and Ingersoll Rand.

He currently teaches Global Supply Chain Management, Strategic Sourcing, Strategic Management, Negotiations, International Business in the undergraduate program and Effective Leadership and Lean Operations Management for the High Tech MBA program at Northeastern University

Recent consulting engagements include Tekcell, a leader in biotechnology robotics and Old Mother Hubbard, a growing gourmet pet foods company.  He writes articles on purchasing and materials topics, is a featured lecturer and conducts web seminars
